BUYER BEWARE: Diploma Mills

The Federal Trade Commission warns consumers about schools that offer you a college degree for a flat fee in a short amount of time with little or no course work.
Signs that the school might be a diploma mill instead of a legitimate college: names that are very similar to well-known colleges or universities; offers for a degree without classes; or a no-wait offer for a diploma in the mail after just a few weeks.
If you have questions about whether a school offers a real educational experience that will benefit you and your career, visit the Database of Accredited Postsecondary Institutions and Programs at to review the data on an institution or campus.
