What Employers Really Want

As part of her job as vice president of Workforce Initiatives for Northwest Indiana region WorkOne Centers, Robyn Minton meets with lots of Hoosier employers, large and small.
Get them in a room together and ask them what qualities they are looking for in their employees, and Minton says the results are pretty remarkable, because no matter the industry, the list of most-wanted qualities are very similar. The most current list:

  • Show a positive attitude
  • Work well with others
  • Follow directions
  • Arrive to work on time
  • Recognize problems and find solutions
  • Manage time effectively
  • Apply good listening skills
  • Be honest and dependable
  • Know the need to pass a drug or background check
  • Dress properly and practice good hygiene
