WGU Indiana Launches $30,000 Women in Technology Scholarship

Originally posted in WGU eNewsletter, October 3, 2017

As Indiana continues to cultivate workforce talent and employment opportunities for women in the male-dominant field of information technology (IT), WGU Indiana has announced fifteen new scholarships for women in any of its bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in the College of Information Technology.

Each of the Women in Technology Scholarships offered through WGU Indiana is valued at up to $2,000—$500 per six-month term for up to four terms. Applications are now being accepted for these scholarships through December 31. Learn more about the scholarship here.

“To keep up with the fast-paced and changing world of technology, individuals must continuously seek out opportunities to learn and grow their skills. This generous scholarship awarded by WGU Indiana can change the lives of women who see a financial barrier to a tech-skilled education,” said Mike Langellier, president and CEO of TechPoint. “Tech skills are and will continue to be critical for the workforce of today and tomorrow, and we need more women to skill-up into those careers. Kudos to WGU Indiana for leaning in and proactively meeting the need.”

TechPoint’s 2015 Central Indiana Tech Workforce Study shows demand for educated tech talent in Indiana continuing to grow. According to the study, more than 80 percent of the surveyed regional companies require a bachelor’s degree or higher for tech-skilled jobs and occupations grew twice as fast as all jobs in Central Indiana from 2009-2014.

WGU Indiana’s online, competency-based programs allow working professionals to study and learn on their own schedules and advance as soon as they demonstrate mastery of course materials. When paired with the university’s affordable tuition of about $6,000 per year, WGU’s flexible learning model makes it possible for working adults to earn an accredited degree and recognized industry certifications.
